43A View Rd, Mt Eden
UncategorizedPublished October 13, 2012 at 1:29 am No CommentsI like to think that houses I’ve designed are houses folk never want to leave, so I’m disappointed to say that another of my houses has been on the market. Put on the market in September and it looks like it’s already sold – so too late for you to take advantage of an Open Home – but photographer Brad Thom at Soul Agency kindly sent me these photos for you lot to see.
Designed and built as a “spec” house back in 2002 as a neighbour to this one, this 4-bedroom steel, glass & concrete house has just 220sqm of space, including garage, cunningly arranged (he says) to feel larger. On a very small site–and surrounded and overlooked on three sides–it opens up to the sky, to the north and out to light, space and open landscaping.
Unfortunately there’s one or two things the previous owners added … like that stub wall for a gate; or the unlikely balustrading … or didn’t add (like that anaemic flue, which demands about 3m more height!) … or removed altogther, like the large shade tree to the north on which the glazing relied was removed in the early stages by the builder–shade louvres since have done the trick however.
Ans as they say, you get those trials on the big jobs.
Overall, it’s a bloody nice, spacious, well-built, light-filled house that anyone should be pleased with. Well, anyone with a soul.
